François Déroche teaches history and codicology of the Arabic manuscript at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris. He has carried out research on various aspects of the handwritten book in the Islamic world, with a special interest in the early period. Among the books he has published are The Abbasid Tradition (1992), Le livre manuscrit arabe, Préludes à une histoire (2004), Islamic Codicology: an Introduction to the Study of Manuscripts in Arabic Script (2006), and La transmission écrite du Coran dans les débuts de l’islam. Le codex Parisino-petropolitanus (2009).
