Doha, Qatar is a city of approximately one million people located on the Persian Gulf. Recently cited by the New York Times as a Cultural Destination of the Year, Doha is home to an increasing number of arts and cultural venues, including the Museum of Islamic Art, the Tribeca Film Festival Doha and the Souk Waqif, nominated in May 2010 for the 11th Cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. More projects are under development, including an annex to the Qatar National Museum designed by Jean Nouvel.
God Is Beautiful: He Loves Beauty: The Object in Islamic Art and Culture will be held October 29-31, 2011 at the Museum of Islamic Art, a monumental new building in downtown Doha designed by I.M. Pei.
